MSCHIP Information

Through Mississippi Health Benefits there is a health insurance option that covers children, the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

CHIP provides health coverage for uninsured children age 0-19 years. To be eligible for CHIP, a child cannot be eligible for Medicaid. At the time of application, children with health insurance are not eligible for CHIP.

The Division of Medicaid has contracted with two Coordinated Care Organizations (CCOs), Magnolia Health and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. These two organizations are responsible for providing services to the children enrolled in the MississippiCAN program and the CHIP program. Children in CHIP must choose one of these two organizations to be responsible for providing the services for the CHIP program. Once you choose an organization, you can only change that organization one time within 90 days of choosing and once a year during open enrollment which is October 1 through December 15.

Effective January 1, 2015, category of eligibility 099-CHIP is a mandatory population for enrollment into either Magnolia Health or UnitedHealthcare Community Plan for children age 0-19 years.
